Snow-capped mountains act as natural water towers, storing water in the form of snow and ice. When they melt, they provide fresh water to billions of people, feeding major rivers like the Ganges, Colorado, and Yangtze.
The white snow cover reflects sunlight (high albedo effect), helping regulate global temperatures. Without them, more heat is absorbed, contributing to global warming.
Mountain ranges support diverse ecosystems, from alpine plants to snow leopards. Their rivers and glaciers sustain life downstream, supporting agriculture and forests.
Snow peaks are central to many indigenous and local cultures, spiritual beliefs, and economies ( e.g., tourism, skiing, and mountaineering).
